Municipality Vacancies

The Parish of St Peter have vacancies in December 2025 for members of the Roads Committee , Roads Inspectors and Rates Assessors.

If you are interested in being a member of the Parish municipality and have time available to assist your Parish during normal working hours, please contact the Parish so more information can be given regarding the Assembly to take place.

Details of the roles and responsibilities are below :

The Roads Committee (Comité des Chemins) is elected to administer the by-roads. The Roads Committee is also the ‘highway authority’ in relation to the by-roads of the Parish and has duties under various laws (available on Jersey Law | Current Laws) including –

  • Loi (1914) sur la Voirie
  • Highways (Jersey) Law 1956
  • Road Traffic (Jersey) Law 1956
  • Roads Administration (Jersey) Law 1960
  • Roads (Drainage) (Jersey) Law 1962
  • Extinguishment of Roads (Jersey) Law 1972
  • Road Works and Events (Jersey) Law 2016
  • Planning and Building (Jersey) Law 2002

Roads Committee – three members are elected by the Parish Assembly, the Connétable convenes and chairs the Roads Committee whenever necessary or when required by any member and must give notice of each topic for the meeting. The Rector is also a member of the Roads Committee.

Roads Inspectors (Inspecteurs des Chemins) – two Inspectors are elected for each Vingtaine (or Cueillette in St Ouen). Roads Inspectors are responsible for the repair of by-roads of the Parish and have to ensure the instructions of the Roads Committee are carried out.

Inspections of roads are done during normal working hours .

The Parish Assembly to elect Roads Committee members and Roads Inspectors is held in December and those elected hold office for 3 years from 1 January in accordance with the Loi (1914) sur la Voirie (jersey law).

The Assessment Committee of the Parish assesses the rateable value of land. Members of the Committee (Assessors) are elected at a Parish Assembly to serve for a period of three years (or up to three years for a St Helier Assessor). A person who is a ratepayer in the Parish or who is registered for the Parish as an elector in public elections may be elected.

All Assessors swear an oath in the Royal Court that they will well and faithfully fulfil the office as a member of the Assessment Committee and will discharge generally all the duties appertaining to that office.
